Security Tips for Working Remote

As a majority of us continue to work from home, basic security measures need to be taken to protect both individual employees and CUSM from cybercriminals who are taking advantage of lax telework security practices. Here are some tips that will help protect yourself and CUSM from cyber crimes.

  • Think Before You Click. Cyber-criminals often use current news, sensational topics, and promises of shocking photos and videos to get you to click on malicious links. Please don't fall for it! Stop and think before you click.
  • Secure Your Account. Create long and unique passphrases for all accounts. We also use multi-factor authentication (MFA), such as App Password and Two Factor Authentication. These MFAs will fortify your online accounts by enabling the strongest authentication tools available.
  • Keep devices with you at all times or stored in a secure location when not in use. Set auto log-out if you walk away from your computer and forget to log out.
  • Limit access to the device you use for work. Only the approved user should use the device (family and friends should not use a work-issued device).
  • Update your software. Before connecting to your corporate network, be sure that all internet-connected devices ‒including PCs, smartphones, and tablets ‒ are running the most current software versions. Updates include essential changes that improve the performance and security of your devices.

If you have any IT-related issues or questions, we are always happy to help.
